Who We Are

John Maino Ironfire Brewery

John grew up in Fallbrook, located in northern San Diego County near Temecula. Maino holds a history degree from UC San Diego, but he was always more interested in brewing than in studying ancient Europe. Upon graduating, he decided to try his hand at brewing full time and found a position at Ballast Point, a well-known microbrewery in San Diego. Eight months and a lot of grunt work later, John was promoted to brewer.

John enjoyed the six years at Ballast Point perfecting the trade and working on his own recipes until he finally decided to "put his money where his mouth is" and strike out on his own. He happened to meet Greg while in the midst of researching and writing his first business plan. They shared a passion for experimenting with classic recipes, and the rest is Ironfire history…

Greg Webb Ironfire Brewery

Vice President

Greg grew up on the East Coast, but found his real home in San Diego when he arrived in 2004. He was bartending around town when his interest in brewing was piqued while working at a bar that was also a brewery. After picking up some knowledge there, he began trying his hand at home brewing and eventually found a job at Ballast Point. Over the course of six years, he worked his way up to brewer, doing every brewing-related job imaginable along the way.

Greg met John while working at Ballast Point and they soon found they shared the same passion for creating distinct beers. Like Maino, Greg started at the bottom of the barrel—washing kegs. Webb is now proud to be a part of Ironfire and everything that it stands for.
